Elastomers which are unprotected will absorb ozone from the atmosphere forming ozonides by the attack of double bonds on the surface layer. When the elastomer is under tension the ozone absorption becomes continuous, as a result, surface cracks may form. When the tensile strain exceeds a critical value the cracks grow continuously, the crack rate of growth is directly proportional to the ozone concentration.

Kerax carefully formulate the hydrocarbon wax to enable it to migrate to the surface of the rubber, whereupon it:-

Creates a thin, inert film that acts as a barrier to the ozone. The film barrier is non-crystalline and flexible Moves the chemical agents (anti-ozonant) to the surface; Helps prevent water soluble rubber chemicals in stressed items to wash out.It should be noted that temperature is one of the critical factors determining the wax performance. The combined effect of temperature and the composition of the wax will determine the overall efficiency of the wax in providing ozone protection.

There are other waxes that can be used as processing aids and mould release materials in many elastomeric compounds.

Hydrogenated Castor Oil (HCO) or castor wax is used in capacitors, coatings and greases, cosmetics, electrical carbon paper, lubrication, polishes, and where resistance to moisture, oils and other petrochemical products is required.

Castor wax is also useful as a top coat varnish for leather, wood & rubber.

12-Hydroxy Stearic Acid (12-HSA) is obtained by the hydrolysis of Hydrogenated Castor Oil, 12-Hydroxy Stearic Acid is a high melting, brittle, waxy solid at ambient temperatures and should be stored away from heat to avoid deterioration.

A non-toxic, non-hazardous material, it has limited solubility in many organic solvents and is insoluble in water.

It is used in lithium and calcium greases, and in the manufacture of acrylic polymers, as an internal lubricant for plastic mouldings, coatings for automotive, equipment, appliances and architectural applications.

We are proud to boast industry leading products suitable for a wide array of application and product requirements.

We believe industry leading customer service, delivery and innovation allow us to meet our ever increasing client demands.

Kerax manufacture Ceto-Stearyl Alcohol cream bases to BP/EP specifications. Further development of the conventional CS alcohol has resulted in a blend of alcohols which conform to the standards but which have a formulation designed to improve the heat stability of the finished product. This reduces the problems of separation of the oil/water phases of the cream at higher storage temperatures.

Kerax can supply fatty acids, fatty alcohols and esters for use in the personal care sector. Fatty acids such as Stearic acids are available in standard and high purity fractions with excellent colour and low Iodine value specifications.

Fatty alcohols like Cetyl, Stearyl, CS alcohols and Emulsifying wax can be blended and supplied in a wide range of compositions to suit most formulation requirements. These custom blended products can then be spray cooled on our finishing plant and filled into any type of packaging and net weight requested.

Kerax can supply the typical ester components of personal care formulations, such as Isopropyl Myristate and Isopropyl Palmitate in addition to PEG, pentaerythritol and sorbitol esters.

Please call us with your specific requirements.

Emulsifying wax can be used in the production of aqueous creams and ointments it is sold primarily to the personal care and pharmaceutical industries it is  a white waxy solid with a very low fatty alcohol odour.

Kerax emulsifying wax is based on primary fatty alcohols and neutral emulsifiers, and is readily emulsified in water and in various aqueous solutions. It is manufactured with high purity and consistency in mind which makes it especially suitable for the manufacture of creams and ointments.

Kerawax EW is manufactured to meet the requirements of BP monogram and has been developed for use in the preparation of pharmaceutical emulsifying ointments and penicillin cream bases. It is also suitable for general use as an oil in water emulsifier for pharmaceutical and toilet preparations and ointments not included in the BP or other official recipes.

Being virtually neutral, it has no action on perfumes, aromatic oils or most medicinals and a wide range of substances may be added to emulsions based on it without interfering with their stability. Vegetable oils and fats, mineral oils and greases may also be emulsified with it and the addition of acidic substances such as salicylic acid and boric acid does not interfere with the properties of the emulsion.
